If you haven’t seen the amazing view of the valley and the town of Oliver from Montakarn Estate Winery yet, you really should. The views are truly spectacular. This summer there will be even more to look at than just scenery. Owner Gary Misson plans on using this wine shop to display works of art by BC artists regularly throughout the season.

The summer began with works by Yvonne Maximchuk who is from Echo Bay, BC. The show opened on June 15th and will continue through until mid-July. Maximchuk is creating works specifically for Montakarn and, according to her website, is “…exploring ways in which glass, wine and the landscape…speak to the relationship of all these things borne of the earth’s bounty, and the varied metamorphosis of one form to another – earth produces wine which tastes of the soil of which it is composed…”

Accompanying the art this summer will be new wine releases as Montakarn Estate Winery reaches its first anniversary of wine sales. The first to be released is the Georgina Rosé, an intriguingly unique blend of Malbec, Sangiovese, and Nebbiolo that shows aromas of red liquorice, watermelon, and rhubarb. Named after Gary’s sister, Georgina Rose, this is truly unique and refreshing summertime rosé. Also due for summer release is a big, bold red called “Angels’s Share” made from Malbec, Syrah, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc – all grown in the vineyards. “The vineyard you walk through is the wine that you drink,” explains Gary.

Stop into Montakarn this summer to experience amazing views, both in and outside of the winery.
