Drinking the Vineyard at Montakarn Estate Winery https://montakarn.ca/drinking-the-vineyard-at-montakarn-estate-winery/ https://montakarn.ca/drinking-the-vineyard-at-montakarn-estate-winery/#respond Fri, 11 Sep 2015 18:53:47 +0000 http://montakarn.ca/?p=928 If you haven’t seen the amazing view of the valley and the town of Oliver from Montakarn Estate Winery yet, you really should. The views are truly spectacular. This summer there will be even more to look at than just scenery. Owner Gary Misson plans on using this wine shop to display works of art by BC artists regularly throughout the season.

The summer began with works by Yvonne Maximchuk who is from Echo Bay, BC. The show opened on June 15th and will continue through until mid-July. Maximchuk is creating works specifically for Montakarn and, according to her website, is “…exploring ways in which glass, wine and the landscape…speak to the relationship of all these things borne of the earth’s bounty, and the varied metamorphosis of one form to another – earth produces wine which tastes of the soil of which it is composed…”

Accompanying the art this summer will be new wine releases as Montakarn Estate Winery reaches its first anniversary of wine sales. The first to be released is the Georgina Rosé, an intriguingly unique blend of Malbec, Sangiovese, and Nebbiolo that shows aromas of red liquorice, watermelon, and rhubarb. Named after Gary’s sister, Georgina Rose, this is truly unique and refreshing summertime rosé. Also due for summer release is a big, bold red called “Angels’s Share” made from Malbec, Syrah, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc – all grown in the vineyards. “The vineyard you walk through is the wine that you drink,” explains Gary.

Stop into Montakarn this summer to experience amazing views, both in and outside of the winery.

Montakarn’s Ribbon cutting ceremony https://montakarn.ca/montakarns-ribbon-cutting-ceremony/ https://montakarn.ca/montakarns-ribbon-cutting-ceremony/#respond Wed, 02 Sep 2015 20:21:43 +0000 http://69.195.124.90/~juliansd/?p=847 Mayor Ron Hovanes was on hand recently for the ribbon cutting ceremony at Montakarn Estate Winery. His speech was a warm embrace to the entrepreneurs who enter the valley and set up businesses. “Welcome to the heart of the South Okanagan Valley,” he stated. “We have changed a lot but we still are all about farming and agriculture. We still are all about creating crops and producing quality products and I  know yours won’t be any different – congratulations.” We would like to thank the mayor for opening our event and we are happy he could attend. We would also like to thank Dennis Walker for being our MC and putting us on his new radio station, as well as Rick Wood who got the crowd toe-tapping and swinging with his non-stop playing. But most of all we want to thank the people of Oliver, friends and family, and the entire valley who attended our opening. Those were the people who brought the excitement and ambiance to our grand opening. My family can’t thank them all enough for their support.

Starting from Hester Creek winery in Oliver, the 20km race through the vineyards visited members of the Oliver Osoyoos Winery Association. Montakarn was excited to be one of this year’s 13 food and wine stops along the race for the Uncorked Marathon runners.
